This ritual was written by Wren, a High Priestess here at Daughters of the Greening.

In this, we honor Gaia for what She has done for us, and what She will be gifting to us in this upcoming year. Needed: 1 White Candle---symbolizing Full Moon 1 Green or Brown Candle---symbolizing Gaia Chalice/glass of either wine or grape juice Bowl of dead leaves or weeds Bowl of grain (oats, cornmeal, etc.) Bowl of water 1 package seeds of choice

Place both candles towards the East on either your altar or wherever you have chosen to do this ritual. Place both bowls in front of the candles, leaves in front of white, grain in front of green. Envision your form of protection surrounding you. Sit or stand in your sacred space until you are relaxed and feel grounded. Then say, “ Fire in the Middle, Earth Surrounds, Sea around Earth, Sky above me.” Feel the protective embrace of our Mother Earth. At his point, envision a symbol of Gaia sitting across from you in the form of a Woman, Her body rounded and full with child. Her arms are wrapped protectively around Her womb. Light the green candle saying:                                                 “For You Gaia I light this candle to symbolize the potential for the New Year to come. As you have given us fall harvests and winter stores, full bellies and full lives, I give back to You my full promise that at every opportunity I will work to heal you. I will work with my hands, my feet, my mind and my heart. Bless you for abundance past and present, Mother.” Then crumble some leaves and weeds into the bowl of water. Take a sip of wine/juice and say “ Nourishment today from last year’s gifts”. Light the white candle saying:                                                 “ May this new light, Mother, symbolize the First Moon of the New Year. May it represent the promises of abundance and devotion from myself to You, and from You to me. May I hold this pure light in my heart this coming year, in commitment to You, for You.” With this said, sprinkle the grain upon the leaves in the bowl of water to bind this promise between you. Take again a sip of wine and say “Nourishment tomorrow from this year’s gifts”. Holding the seed cupped in your hands, lift them to heart level and chant:

Gaia, beloved Mother From Your body come these seeds of promise. As You hold our lives in Your hands, May we hold these seeds for Your life. The Harvests that have returned to Your body And left us with these seeds of what is to come May our healing work for You bear fruits, That these fruits may also leave seeds for our futures.

Again, lift the cup of wine/juice and sip, saying “Nourishment always from fruits that we work for. Bless You Mother in your fullness of the promise of life”. Thank your Gaia symbol for being there. Pinch out your candles and open your circle, thanking Fire, Earth, Sea and Sky for their presence. Pour the rest of the wine and the bowl of water, grains and leaves beneath your favorite tree as an offering. Spread whatever is left of the same where you see fit.  Save your seeds in a sacred place for next years’ plantings.
