Eos is the Greek Goddess of dawn.  She and her siblings Helios (the Sun) and Selene (the Moon)
were one of many Titan gods.  Each morning, she would rise, in her golden chariot, to the Sky,
and uses her rays of light to melt away the mists of night. She would then open the gate for
Helios' chariot. Homer often called her, in the Iliad and in the Odyssey, the "rosy fingered".

Eos had an unquenchable desire for handsome young men both human and god. She fell in love
with a Trojan, named Tithonus.  The story is that she kidnapped and took her lover to Ethiopia.
They had two children, Memnon and Emathion. They loved each other so much, that Eos asked
Zeus to grant Tithonus eternal life. That's what Zeus did - but, when asking something, you
should be careful what you ask for and make sure to choose your words carefully! Eos the
goddess of Dawn forgot to also ask for her lover to remain youthful, so Tithonus grew older
and older. Eos locked him in her palace, because she did not want to see him any more. The poor
Tithonus shrank until he became a grasshopper.

In the Trojan War, Memnon fought against Achilles. Eos Memnon’s mother and Thetis, Achilles
mother, asked Zeus to have mercy on their sons. Zeus put their "fate" on the scales. Memnon's
"fate" was heavier so he had to die. Eos begged Zeus to give her son immortality.  She took her
son and transported him to Ethiopia, where he became king. Eos loved her son so much that
when he did die, her tears became the dew we see each morning on the fields.

While being married to Tithonus, Eos had many affairs.  In one such story, she fell in love with
Cephalus, who was married to Procris. Eos tried to convince him to flee with her, but he
refused, because he was in love with his wife. Eos told Cephalus she it was not a problem to
cheat on his wife, because his wife cheats on him too. In order to prove this, Eos change
Cephalus’ looks. He went to his wife (who didn't recognize him, of course) and seduced her.
Once Procris learned what had happened, she ran away, ashamed of herself.  Eos kidnapped
Cephalus and took him to Syria, where they had a son, Phaeton. But Cephalus left her shortly
thereafter and returned to his wife who he still loved.

Eos had a thing for mortals, but she could appreciate a god, too. With Astraeus she had
several children, the Winds (Zephyrus, Boreas, Notos), Eosphoros and the Stars.  Eos has a
very passionate history with men but is remembered for her rays of light used to melt away the
darkness of the night sky.

Charge of the Dark Goddess
(by Tiger Eye)

Wisdom and empowerment are the gifts
of the Dark Goddess of Transformation.
She is known to us as Kali, Hecate, Cerridwen,
Lilith, Persephone, Fata, Morgana, Ereshkigal,
Arianhrod, Durga, Inanna, Tiamat,
and by a million, million other names.
Hear me child, and know Me for who I am.
I have been with you since you were born, and I will
stay with you until you return to Me at the final dusk.
I am the passionate and seductive lover
who inspires the poet to dream.
I am the One who calls to you at the end of your journey.
After the day is done, My children find
their blessed rest in my embrace.
I am the womb from which all things are born.
I am the shadowy, still tomb; all things must come to Me
and bare their breasts to die and be reborn to the Whole.
I am the Sorceress that will not be ruled,
the Weaver of Time, the Teacher of Mysteries.
I snip the threads that bring my children home to me.
I slit the throats of the cruel and drink the blood
of the heartless. Swallow your fear and come to me,
and you will discover true beauty, strength, and courage.
I am the fury which rips the flesh from injustice.
I am the glowing forge that transforms your inner demons
into tools of power. Open yourself to my embrace and overcome.
I am the glinting sword that protects you from harm.
I am the crucible in which all the aspects of yourself
merge together in a rainbow of union.
I am the velvet depths of the night sky,
the swirling mists of midnight, shrouded in mystery.
I am the chrysalis in which you will face that which terrifies you
and from which you will blossom forth, vibrant and renewed.
Seek me at the crossroads, and you shall be transformed,
for once you look upon my face, there is no return.
I am the fire that kisses the shackles away.
I am the cauldron in which all opposites grow
to know each other in Truth.
I am the web which connects all things.
I am the Healer of all wounds,
the Warrior who rights all wrongs in their Time.
I make the weak strong.
I make the arrogant humble.
I raise up the oppressed and empower the disenfranchised.
I am Justice tempered with Mercy.
Most importantly, child, I am you. I am part of you,
and I am within you.
Seek me within and without, and you will be strong.
Know me.
Venture into the dark so that you may awaken
to Balance, Illumination, and Wholeness.
Take my Love with you everywhere and
find the Power within to be who you wish.

Body of the ritual
Create the circle as usual.  Light the candles of white for purifying and the blue for peace and
harmony.  Invite the goddesses to join the ceremony in thanksgiving of Eos.

Fill the bowl with water.  Using a shallow large bowl makes it easier for the candles to float.
Add the rose pedals and light the candles.  While doing so, say:

Lady of the Moon, of the stars and the Earth;
Of the Sun, of the forests and the hills;
I perform a ritual of thanks.
My love shines like the flame;
My love floats like the petals
Upon You.
Lady of the Waters, of flowers and the sea;
Of the Air, of horns and of fire;
I perform a ritual of thanks.
My love shines like the flame;
My love floats like the petals
Upon You.
Lady of the Caves, of cats and snakes;
Of the Plains, of falcons and stags;
I perform a ritual of thanks.
My love shines like the flame;
My love floats like the petals
Upon You.
Eos Goddess of the Dawn
I perform a ritual of thanks for you.
My love floats like the petals
Upon You.

Meditate on what you are thankful for.  Once you have given homage, thank each Goddess for
joining the ritual and open the circle.
